Lamine Yamal Knows His Playlist Almost As Well As Football
The World Cup celebration may be over, but we are not finished with Lamine Yamal just yet. Before Spain’s 2026 victory lap, the FC Barcelona star sat down with Track Star at age 17 and proved his music knowledge was nearly as sharp as his left foot.
Yamal opens the challenge with the kind of confidence usually reserved for a one-on-one run at goal: “No voy a fallar ninguno”—he is not missing any. And for most of the episode, he comes frighteningly close to backing it up.

The first names come easily. He recognizes Myke Towers almost immediately and places him alongside El Morad at the top of his personal ranking. Yamal also catches 50 Cent’s “P.I.M.P.,” music from Morad, Dei V, Eminem, Don Miguelo, Burna Boy, XXXTENTACION, Karol G and Mora.
His affection for old-school rap is not exactly a secret. Yamal has previously named 50 Cent and Eminem among the artists that help him get into match mode, alongside rap, trap, Afrobeat and classic reggaetón. The Track Star challenge simply gives us the adorable evidence in real time.
The football references sneak into the quiz too. When “Y Qué Fue?” plays, Yamal connects it to the TikTok he posted after Barcelona’s 5–2 Spanish Super Cup victory over Real Madrid. Elsewhere, he jokes that the music before training or a match depends on the age range inside the dressing room—pointing out that teammates such as Robert Lewandowski are, in his words, part of the older crowd.
Eventually the streak cracks. Italian DJ Gabry Ponte and “Exótica” leave him blank until the TikTok connection clicks, while Alleh and Yorghaki’s “capaz (merengueton)” nearly gets identified by genre before the title lands. Even then, Yamal keeps the same giant smile and easy confidence that make the whole clip ridiculously watchable.
Track Star flew to Barcelona for the episode, and the language barrier becomes part of the charm as Yamal answers in Spanish while host Jack Coyne works through the clues beside him. The footballer may be reserved in longer interviews, but put a playlist in front of him and suddenly the personality comes dancing straight out.
That smile really is too cute—but the larger takeaway is that Yamal’s music taste is broad, specific and tied closely to the way he prepares, celebrates and connects with his friends and teammates. Football may be the main stage, but the soundtrack clearly matters.
