1977 Hollywood Looks Dirtier, Stranger and Tailor-Made for Cliff Booth

Netflix unleashes Brad Pitt back into the boots of Cliff Booth in The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, and this time our laid-back Hollywood stuntman has been dropped into 1977 — a dirtier, stranger version of the town he knew the first time around.
The new official trailer finally gives us a fuller look at the follow-up to Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, with David Fincher directing from a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino. Pitt returns to the role that earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, only Cliff is no longer simply hanging around as Rick Dalton’s stunt double and right-hand man. The years have moved on, Hollywood has changed, and Booth has found new ways to make himself useful.
The trailer frames Cliff as a fixer drifting through the less glamorous corners of the industry — the guy people call when a problem needs handling without too many questions. That is, frankly, a pretty perfect place to put him. Cliff was always most interesting when his relaxed California cool sat directly beside the possibility that something could go very wrong very quickly.

Fincher taking over directing duties makes this whole thing even more curious. Pitt and Fincher already have a long, beautifully bruised history together through Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Putting Pitt’s most Tarantino-coded character into Fincher’s hands gives the project a slightly different danger before anybody even says a word.
The cast around Pitt includes Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Peter Weller, with Netflix also listing Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis and Karren Karagulian. Tarantino may not be behind the camera this time, but the screenplay remains his, keeping Cliff firmly rooted in the alternate Hollywood mythology that started back in 2019.
And the timing is not random. The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth jumps ahead eight years from the 1969 setting of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. By 1977, the movie business, television and the culture around them had all shifted hard. Cliff surviving that transition feels like half the fun: the same unbothered face, walking through an industry that has already started becoming something else.
Netflix is also giving this one a proper theatrical moment. The film begins an exclusive two-week global IMAX run on November 25, 2026, before arriving on Netflix December 23. So yes, “crawling out in IMAX November this 25th” survives — only now we know Cliff is hanging around on the biggest screen for two full weeks before coming home for the holidays.
Tarantino is extending Cliff’s story in print, too. His companion novel The Adventures of Cliff Booth is due December 8, giving the character an unusually full little second life across film and fiction. For somebody who spent most of his first movie standing just outside the spotlight, Cliff Booth has somehow become his own franchise. We’re not mad at it.
