Woopsies! One Warm-Up Collision Ends Their Night Before It Starts
Vasilisa Kaganovskaya and Maxim Nekrasov had a very painful warm-up moment before they could even get to their rhythm dance. The Russian ice-dance pair were caught in a collision during the national team test skates in Moscow on September 19, 2026, leaving Nekrasov with an injured arm and forcing the duo to withdraw.
The collision happened during the second ice-dance warm-up group at CSKA Arena. Egor Goncharov, skating with Anna Shcherbakova, fell while working through a twizzle and slid into the path of Kaganovskaya and Nekrasov. Both were knocked down, with Nekrasov landing awkwardly on his arm and remaining on the ice for a time before getting back up.
They tried to continue the warm-up, but it quickly became clear that the night was over. Coach and choreographer Anjelika Krylova said Nekrasov had injured his arm and could not perform: “We’ll go to the emergency room for an X-ray.” The pair withdrew from the rhythm dance and later skipped the free dance as well.

The Good News: Nekrasov Avoided a Fracture
The first examination brought some relief: no fracture. A follow-up MRI then confirmed a dislocation, while the Russian Figure Skating Federation said there was no ligament damage. Coach Alexei Gorshkov said the team could keep working toward its next competition rather than facing the kind of long recovery the initial fall had made everyone fear.
That next stop matters. Kaganovskaya and Nekrasov had arrived in Moscow only weeks after taking silver at the 2026 ISU Challenger Series Kinoshita Group Cup in Tokyo, scoring 184.81 points. They are also the reigning Russian national silver medalists, so the test skates were supposed to be another early-season look at a pair very much in motion.
Instead, they got an emergency-room detour. Gorshkov said the plan remains to prepare for the Denis Ten Memorial in Almaty, Kazakhstan, October 7–10, provided Nekrasov’s recovery continues as expected.
Goncharov was able to continue after the crash, later joking that he had been “a bowling pin” in the whole mess. His partner Shcherbakova also noted that the required dance elements can send teams moving in opposite directions during crowded warm-ups — exactly the kind of split-second traffic problem that turned this one into a painful wipeout.
So, thee good news after all the ice-rink chaos: no fracture, no ligament damage and, for now, no change to Kaganovskaya and Nekrasov’s international plans. Still — that is one warm-up they will not be forgetting anytime soon.
