A Psychedelic Soul Gem Asks Whether You’re Truly Alive

Five years later, Ambar Lucid’s spectacular “Get Lost In The Music” still sounds like a portal opening between late-1960s soul, psychedelic pop and one very electric organ.
Released on May 13, 2021, the song arrived while the world was still crawling in and out of the pandemic fog. Plenty of worthy music became commercially lost inside that strange chapter, but this one deserves thee replay—with the volume pushed high enough to let every organ swirl, vocal turn and fuzzed-out groove reclaim the room.
The track carries the warm, mischievous spirit of vintage soul in Brenton Wood territory without becoming a costume. Lucid’s voice remains unmistakably modern: airy one moment, commanding the next and perfectly willing to float above the production before digging directly into its pulse.

At the time, Lucid was a 20-year-old Dominican-Mexican singer-songwriter from New Jersey stepping into a larger new chapter. “Get Lost In The Music” introduced her signing with 300 Entertainment and previewed the five-song EP of the same name, released on June 18, 2021.
The song was written by Ambar Cruz, Jack Brady and Jordan Roman and produced by Los Angeles duo The Wavys. Together they build something that struts rather than rushes: a rolling rhythm section, vintage-toned keys and psychedelic flourishes carrying a message about ego, conformity and the difference between merely existing and actually living.
Then Lucid lands on the question that gives the entire song its backbone: “What’s the point of living if you’re already dead?” It is not a nihilistic throwaway. It challenges the kind of emotional sleepwalking that happens when fear, outside expectations and society’s preferred version of you take control.
That lands directly inside INYIM’s Be Yourself on Purpose ethos. Being yourself is not a passive personality trait; it is a decision made again and again—to choose your own voice, style, desires and direction before somebody else assigns them to you. Lucid turns losing the ego into finding the self.
Her psychedelic imagery gives the awakening a fantastical doorway, but the destination is grounded: stop holding yourself back, notice the answers already in front of you and refuse to let social pressure trap your spirit. Music becomes the release valve—the force that breaks the spell and returns her to an authentic life.
That surrender is the song’s entire superpower. Lucid never treats the retro elements like museum pieces, and she never uses spirituality as empty decoration. She bends familiar soul colors into her own dreamy language while making self-definition feel joyful, rebellious and necessary.
The official video extends that feeling through glowing color, oversized hats, theatrical framing and a visual universe that appears to exist somewhere between an old television variety set and a mushroom-assisted revelation. It is glamorous, strange and completely committed to the song’s invitation to leave ordinary thinking behind.
Lucid’s wider Get Lost In The Music EP kept refusing a single lane. Across five songs, she moved between psychedelic rock, Latin rhythm, dreamy pop, R&B and funk while switching naturally between English and Spanish. The title track remains its ideal doorway because it announces the entire mission before the rest of the record starts changing shape.
Now 25, Ambar Lucid has continued evolving without sanding away the qualities that made her early music so magnetic. Her voice can still sound delicate, sharp and full-bodied inside the same phrase—and “Get Lost In The Music” remains one of the clearest examples of how naturally she can make different eras coexist.
So yes, this one may have slipped past too many listeners during its original pandemic-era run. Its fifth anniversary is the perfect excuse to correct the record, hear the words as clearly as the electric organ and remember that being fully alive sometimes begins with refusing to perform a life that was never yours.
