Duran Duran’s “Secret Oktober” Captures Their Halloween 2022 Vegas Spectacle

Halloween Listenable: Get Into Duran Duran’s Witchy Vegas Groove

Get into thee Halloween groove. It’s creeping closer! Start dusting off those decorations and get those pumpkins out. In the meantime…

While you get all your ghouls and spooks out, spin some trick-or-treat tunes through the speakers — brought to you by ’80s icons Duran Duran and their witchy Vegas spectacular that became Secret Oktober.

Live at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas, right smack on thee witchy and ghostly day itself — October 31, 2022 — Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor hit the stage in full costume with giant skeletons, tombstones, cobwebs, coffins and ghouls surrounding them.

And the setlist went properly spooky. Duran Duran pulled out their first live “Secret Oktober” since 2011, their first “Nightboat” since 2005 and “Love Voodoo” for the first time since 2017, then worked in Halloween-perfect covers including The Specials’ “Ghost Town,” Siouxsie and the Banshees’ “Spellbound” and Cerrone’s “Supernature.”

The night ended up doing more than giving Vegas one hell of a costume party. Duran Duran later pointed back to the show as the spark behind Danse Macabre, carrying that haunted setlist energy into the studio and eventually releasing the Secret Oktober concert film in 2024.

So while you’re pulling out the cobwebs, lights, plastic skeletons and whatever possessed pumpkin has survived storage since last year, this is thee soundtrack assignment. Simon and the boys already did the haunting for you.
