Dig Out Libertine’s 25th Anniversary Garden Blowout

Dig out fashion styles from Libertine’s 25th anniversary! In celebration of thee milestone, Johnson Hartig sends Spring/Summer 2027 into New York Fashion Week with flowers, butterflies, sequins and zero interest in behaving quietly.
Titled Out of the Chaos and Into the Garden, the anniversary collection was presented at The National Arts Club on September 9, turning Hartig’s long-running obsession with surface, found imagery and decorative mayhem into one very Libertine victory lap.

Libertine Turns 25
Johnson Hartig celebrates a quarter century of Libertine with butterflies, garden motifs, paillettes and gloriously over-the-top surface work.

The garden idea is everywhere without ever becoming too literal. Hartig works in Warholian butterflies on ivory silk, giant paillettes, hand-silkscreened garden tools, Bloomsbury-esque patchwork and a topiary coat embroidered with boxwood forms in Versailles-style boxes.

One of the best references comes straight from Hartig’s own house. Paint-splattered drop cloths from work happening in his foyer became a print, landing across pieces with the kind of accidental-to-fabulous logic that has always made Libertine feel like Libertine.
And because subtle has never exactly been the assignment, the anniversary gets its proper flash too: jersey pieces stamped with a sequined 25, towering embellishment and enough reflective surface to turn a model into a walking disco ball. Twenty-five years in, Hartig is still cultivating his own garden — just with more sequins.
