Cassidy kept the tunes rocking and rolling marking the first year anniversary since the music collaboration debut.
Celebrating the festivities, the special “DJ Cassidy’s Pass the Mic: BET Soul Train Edition" passed his world-famous microphone to over 20 iconic R&B and Hip Hop voices in the industry. This episode included very special guests Debbie Harry and Fab 5 Freddy appearing appropriately to also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Soul Train Awards simultaneously.
DJ C said in the following in a press release: ““I wanted to hone in on an era that best represented something very special about the Soul Train legacy. I honed in on this era from 1975 thru 1985, a prolific game changing time.””
He also expressed saying, ““I represented that [game changing time] by putting together disco records, R&B records, funk records, hip-hop records, and even rock records.””
Cassidy explained Harry's contribution: “She together with her relationship with Fab 5 Freddy represented a truly fascinating, merging of budding hip-hop culture in the South Bronx, and the punk scene and art world of downtown New York.”
In a nutshell. The Queen of music, Debbie Harry, famously rapped the iconic opening lyrics, “Fab 5 Freddy told me everybody’s fly.” And from that moment on. Blondie’s pioneering 1980 timeless, “Rapture” was born. It's groundbreaking sonics helped open the mainstream/commercial doors for the then-underground hip-hop scene.
