Miley’s New Chapter Is Sleek, Bass-Heavy and Built to Move

Miley is officially moving into a new era, and “Bass Persuades” is thee first proper taste.
The title track from her upcoming 10th studio album arrives with a polished pop-meets-post-punk pulse, a bass-forward groove, and a music video directed by Mert Alas — the Turkish-born fashion photographer and director best known as one half of the influential Mert & Marcus duo with Marcus Piggott. Their glossy, high-fashion editorials and campaigns have featured everyone from Madonna and Lady Gaga to Rihanna and Kate Moss. Before we even knew Mert directed this one — and considering his editorials have been all over our pages here at INYIM — we had already clocked all thee proper male models and styling. Suddenly, it all made sense.
By now, Miley has never really needed to be the “best” dancer, singer or entertainer in some technical scoreboard sense. What she has always had is something harder to fake: the ability to be completely Miley. Country roots, Malibu cool, rock-star rasp, pop instincts, a little hee-haw and a lot of nerve — she tends to make the contradictions work because she actually owns them.
“Bass Persuades” pushes that identity into a cleaner, more controlled lane. The synths pulse, the chorus is immediate, and yes, there is actual choreography in the mix. Miley may not be thee greatest natural dancer, but at least she is trying — and we respect the effort. She commits to the movement instead of pretending it is not part of the assignment, which somehow makes the whole thing feel even more Miley. For someone who has spent years joking about not being a dancer, she looks very willing to prove the title wrong when she sings that “the kids don’t wanna dance.”

The song is the first preview of Bass Persuades, due September 18, 2026 via Atlantic Records. The album follows 2025’s Something Beautiful and opens another fast-moving chapter for an artist who has spent the last few years refusing to stay parked in one sound for very long.
