Fontaines D.C. Turn Lana Del Rey Into Something Darker and Dreamier
Brought to you by BBC Radio 1: today’s Throwback Thursday belongs to Fontaines D.C. and their woozy, beautifully moody take on Lana Del Rey’s “Say Yes To Heaven.”
The Dublin band stepped into the Radio 1 Live Lounge on October 2, 2024 and turned Lana’s dreamy standalone single into something heavier, stranger and unmistakably theirs.
Frontman Grian Chatten leads the performance while the full band pulls the song toward Fontaines D.C.’s own darker atmosphere. It is not karaoke, not imitation and definitely not a polite little cover. They bend the track until it sits comfortably inside their world.
The session arrived during the band’s Romance era, when they also performed their own single “Favourite” for Live Lounge. Chatten had already spoken publicly about admiring Lana Del Rey’s songwriting, so this cover feels less like a random assignment and more like one of those pairings that makes immediate sense once you hear it.
