Tinashe Shows the Work Behind Making Pop Look Effortless

R&B/pop princess Tinashe is pulling back the curtain on not one, but two of her latest singles. Her new official behind-the-scenes film for “Crash Out” and “Melatonin” puts the rehearsals, choreography, camera work and sheer physical preparation behind the glossy final product front and center.

Because pop may look effortless once the edit is finished, but Tinashe has never been shy about showing the work. This glimpse into the making of both visuals is another reminder that the precision is not an accident — it is rehearsed, drilled, reset and done again until the movement hits exactly where it should.

“Crash Out” arrived July 16, following June’s “Too Easy,” and continued the rollout toward Tinashe’s forthcoming album POPSTAR. The track leans into a harder, more restless edge while still leaving plenty of room for the kind of movement-heavy visual language that has become central to this era.

Then came “Melatonin” on August 13, an electronic, dance-floor-ready follow-up whose official video makes choreography the event itself. The visual was directed by 91 Keys and uses multiple styles of dance and groups of performers around Tinashe, turning the song’s high-energy pulse into something physical.

The behind-the-scenes footage is where that polish gets wonderfully unpolished. Instead of only giving us the final cut, we get the machinery around it: practice, repetition and the athletic discipline required to make a few minutes of pop spectacle land without looking labored.

That has always been part of Tinashe’s appeal. She is not simply showing up after somebody else builds the package around her. Dance, staging and visual execution are part of the actual architecture of a Tinashe record — and the training visible around these two singles makes that creative involvement difficult to miss.

Both tracks are leading into POPSTAR, due September 25. Tinashe’s official site is already framing the album as the next destination, with the singer also lining up headline dates around the release. If the title sounds knowingly direct, the behind-the-scenes footage makes the argument for it: this is the labor behind being a pop star, not just the finished pose.
