Released July 8, “If I Let You” lays out the terms before surrendering to romance: attraction is there, but trust still has to earn its way through the door. The sisters’ layered vocals do most of the talking, giving the song that classic-soul pull without making it feel trapped in another decade.
The track also landed at exactly the right moment. Their self-titled debut album, The Womack Sisters, arrived August 14 through Daptone Records, bringing “If I Let You” into an 11-song set built around soul, family, love, heartbreak and the long road the sisters took before finally stepping forward under their own name.
That road comes with one hell of a musical family tree. The sisters are the daughters of Cecil Womack and Linda Womack, granddaughters of Sam Cooke and nieces of Bobby Womack. They grew up around stages and studios, later sang behind Bobby Womack on his final tours and eventually carved out their own lane as a trio.
On Open Mic, though, none of that history needs a museum label. The performance is about three voices locking together, letting the harmonies stretch and giving “If I Let You” enough room to breathe outside the studio version.
