Pasadena Humane Steps In After the Three‑Month‑Old Shepherd Mix Survives a Traumatic Injury

Meet Peanut — the extraordinary little pup who instantly captured hearts after being found injured and missing nearly his entire nose. The poor fuzzy sweetheart was also suffering from a dislocated jaw, yet still managed to radiate charm, curiosity, and that unstoppable puppy spark.
Peanut’s journey began when a Good Samaritan discovered him in Arcadia, severely hurt and struggling to breathe. Animal control officers rushed him from an emergency clinic straight to Pasadena Humane, where the veterinary team immediately stepped in.
Doctors placed a stent in the one nasal opening he still had, hoping to keep it from sealing shut. Despite their efforts, the skin eventually grew over — but here’s the miracle: Dogs with this type of injury adapt incredibly well. Peanut is now a permanent mouth breather, but he’s thriving, playful, and blissfully unaware that he looks any different.
At just three months old, he’s already proving himself a fighter. Staff describe him as “remarkable,” a tiny baby with chubby paws and a huge spirit. He struts around, snorts adorably, and has even developed his own signature style — leaving his little “gophers” (tongue tips) out on everything, even while he sleeps.

The community has shown up in full force. After Pasadena Humane shared Peanut’s story, thousands of people donated to their Miracle Medical Fund, helping provide lifesaving treatment for Peanut and other severely injured animals.
Once he’s fully healed, Peanut will be up for adoption — and trust us, this handsome guy won’t have any trouble finding a forever family.
