One Duck, One Walgreens and a Very Patient Police Officer
Today’s Friday Escapism is exactly the kind of super-cute animal whimsy we require after a week of actual news: a duck walked into a Texas Walgreens, refused to leave and forced everybody involved to treat the situation like a tiny feathered standoff.
The scene unfolded at a Walgreens in Farmers Branch, Texas, where employees apparently reached the point every retail worker eventually reaches with an uninvited duck: okay, somebody call the police.

Enter Officer Murry of the Farmers Branch Police Department, whose body-worn camera captured what may be one of the least threatening suspect encounters of the year. The duck had apparently decided the drugstore was now part of its territory and was not especially interested in management’s checkout policy.
Officer Murry eventually spots his suspect hanging around a mirrored display. And this is where the duck’s own vanity appears to betray it: while the little diva is occupied with the reflection situation, Murry moves in and scoops it up.
There is no dramatic takedown. No backup unit. No tiny Miranda warning. Just one officer, one duck and the quiet realization that this is now genuinely part of the workday.
But the story does not end with the Walgreens eviction. Murry brings the feathered trespasser along for a ride, and the bodycam follows the pair all the way to Rawhide Creek, where the day’s least dangerous detainee gets a much better release plan than most suspects.
At the water, the officer encourages the duck to make a “big jump” — because after all that, apparently we also needed a motivational coach in the final act.
WFAA reported that the duck was safely released into Rawhide Creek, meaning our suspect is back on the streets — or technically the water — with no charges filed and, as far as we know, no lifetime Walgreens ban.
And honestly, this entire sequence has the structure of a three-act comedy. Act one: duck enters store. Act two: duck refuses to cooperate with management and gets police involved. Act three: Officer Murry becomes wildlife transportation and drives the star to the creek.
