Forty Years After Control, Janet Is Taking the Celebration to the Big Screen

Janet Jackson is celebrating four decades of Control with a one-night concert event that will be filmed for a global motion-picture release.

Janet Jackson is not letting the 40th anniversary of Control pass with a cake, a reissue and a cute Instagram carousel. Miss Jackson is turning it into a concert movie.

Janet Jackson: Control 40 — The Airtab Music Movie will be filmed live on December 12, 2026 at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, transforming a one-night career celebration into a cinematic event built for audiences well beyond the arena.

Four decades of Janet. One night. One movie.

The project comes from Janet Jackson and Airtab Music, with filmmaker Leslie Small directing a multi-camera concert production that will also include behind-the-scenes footage.

And despite the title, this will not simply be Janet performing Control front to back and calling it a night.

The production is being built as a celebration of Janet’s entire catalog, moving from the songs that made Control a cultural reset through Rhythm Nation 1814 and onward to later staples including “Miss You Much,” “Escapade,” “Love Will Never Do (Without You),” “If,” “Again,” “That’s the Way Love Goes,” “Together Again” and “All for You.”

That makes the anniversary framing feel exactly right. Control, released in 1986, was Janet’s third studio album, but it was the one where everything snapped into place. Her collaboration with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis gave her a harder, sharper, more independent sound and produced a run that included “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “Nasty,” “When I Think of You,” “Let’s Wait Awhile” and the title track.

Four decades later, those records still do not sound like museum pieces. They sound like the blueprint everybody else kept photocopying.

Janet Jackson’s Control 40 Will Be Filmed Live in Florida

The December 12 show at Amerant Bank Arena is being positioned as the live centerpiece of The Airtab Music Movie, with fans in the building becoming part of the finished film rather than simply attending another stop on a tour.

Airtab Music says the project is currently being positioned for a global theatrical release, followed by worldwide distribution across major streaming platforms. A theatrical date and streaming home have not yet been announced.

Tickets go on sale Thursday, August 20 at 10:00 AM ET. The official Control 40 page is also offering access to the VIP presale list.

For longtime Janet fans, the idea of finally getting a polished career-spanning concert film feels overdue. Her live shows have always been such a huge part of the Janet Jackson story — choreography, precision, attitude, fashion, staging, that entire language she helped build — that a big-screen document of it almost feels like correcting the historical record.

And using Control as the doorway? Perfect. Forty years later, Janet is still very much in control.
