Hope Harbor Is Not Ready For What Walked In
Na Hong-jin is putting a whole rural village through it in HOPE, the new sci-fi thriller that starts with one terrifying discovery and then lets the dread spread like gossip at a family party.
The film takes place in Hope Harbor, a remote South Korean village where police chief Bum-seok and officer Sung-ae are called after a mysterious creature appears to have wreaked havoc on the town. Nearby, a group of hunters heads into the forest to track the beast, only to learn very quickly that the woods may not be taking requests.

The cast is stacked-stacked, with Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender all circling the mystery. Fassbender and Vikander stepping into Na’s world already gives the trailer a polished international-thriller charge, but the real tease is how quickly this thing seems to move from local panic to cosmic disaster.
Na, the filmmaker behind The Wailing, knows how to make fear feel messy, spiritual, and deeply human all at once. Here, HOPE looks less like a clean alien-invasion spectacle and more like a village nightmare where nobody has the full truth, everybody is reacting too late, and the creature may only be the beginning of the problem.
HOPE is set to arrive in theaters on September 9, 2026.
