Erick the Architect Turns a Studio One Classic Into a Summer Love Rush
Today’s Song Choice of the Day belongs to Brooklyn rapper, producer and Flatbush Zombies founding member Erick the Architect, whose “No Doubt (I’m In Love)” somehow sounds both brand-new and like it has been floating out of a warm-weather radio forever.
The track arrived in June as Erick’s first new solo release in more than a year and his debut single for Mass Appeal. Produced by Yeti Beats and Federico Vindver, it folds disco and dub into one ridiculously easy summer groove.
But the magic ingredient is even older.
“No Doubt (I’m In Love)” samples Jamaican singer Jennifer Lara’s 1981 Studio One gem “I Am in Love.” Erick does not simply lift the warmth of that record — he builds a whole new flirtatious little world around it.

The Sample Gives the Song Its Sweetest Pull
Jennifer Lara’s original is exactly the kind of record that makes sampling irresistible: melodic, intimate and already carrying decades of atmosphere inside it.

According to the release, the goal was to show the Jamaica Erick connected with: community, everyday life, motorcycles, style and a broader kind of love that stretches past the song’s romantic hook.
He also published an essay reflecting on the trip and the responsibility of documenting a place without reducing it to texture. That gives the visual a little more weight than the usual fly-in, film-something-colorful-and-leave approach.
