Marcello Hernández is taking his SNL spark to sports’ big awards night as the 2026 ESPYS return to New York City.

Marcello Hernández is side-stepping away from his weekly duties over at Saturday Night Live and stepping straight into sports-awards host mode for the upcoming 2026 ESPYS.
The comedian, actor, writer and certified rising funny-man has been tapped to host this year’s ceremony, bringing his signature charm, speed and mischievous stage energy to one of sports’ biggest nights.
SNL charm, New York energy, athlete glamour and one very ready awards-show stage.

This year’s accolade ceremony is also making its return to New York City after more than 25 years, with the show set for the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.
The 2026 ESPYS Presented by Capital One will air live on ABC on Wednesday, July 15, with streaming also tied to the ESPN App and next-day viewing available across Hulu, Disney+, the ESPN App and ABC Video on Demand.
For Marcello, the New York homecoming hits with extra full-circle flavor. ESPN shared that he once traveled to the city to sell comedy tickets in Greenwich Village in exchange for stage time, and now he is hosting one of the biggest sports-entertainment nights on the calendar.
That is very much an arc. From sidewalk hustle to Lincoln Center host duties. From sketch comedy heat to athlete-packed awards-show pressure. From SNL breakout to ESPYS center stage.
And honestly, it feels correct. The ESPYS always need someone who can keep the room loose, roast lightly, move fast and not get swallowed by the sheer amount of famous people in tuxes, gowns and championship rings.
Marcello has that young, live-wire thing. He can be sweet. He can be chaotic. He can give heartthrob without trying too hard. And he knows how to land a punchline before the room realizes it has already been hit.
