Home Counties Turn Clubbing Fatigue Into One Frenetic Studio Rush

Today’s Performance Choice of the Day comes charging in from Home Counties and their vivacious, raucous single “Uptight.”
The London six-piece take a song about clubbing fatigue, overpriced pints and the creeping urge to catch the bus home—and somehow turn it into one of thee most dance-floor-ready spirals around. The track opens their 2024 debut album, Exactly As It Seems, released through Submarine Cat Records.

Featured on the EA Sports FC 25 soundtrack, “Uptight” already had the kind of spring-loaded pulse built for movement. This SubCat Sessions version pushes that nervous energy into live-wire guitars, twitchy synths and vocals that sound one strobe light away from a beautiful meltdown.
Sonically, there are flashes of LCD Soundsystem-style motion, Yard Act’s clipped tension and Blur’s gift for turning very British irritation into a hook. But Home Counties keep the mood completely their own: frenetic, honest and ready to make a moody room move.

The performance keeps the song’s anxious little engine revving until the final note—proof that being over the club does not mean the groove has to clock out.
