His son chose corridos, Guatemala and a very different road
You know David Koechner from Anchorman, The Office, The Goldbergs and a career built on being one of those instantly recognizable guys who can steal a scene with one look. But during his July 29 appearance on TigerBelly, one of the most interesting parts of the conversation had nothing to do with Hollywood.
It was about his son Sargento Koechner — born William Sargent Koechner, one of David and Leigh Koechner’s twins. Leigh Koechner’s own biography names the twins as Audrey Violet and William Sargent, while biographical records place their birthday on June 2, 2006. That makes Sargento 20 years old in 2026.
The artist name Sargento also appears to be a natural spin on his real middle name, Sargent — fitting for a musical path that now runs through corridos, Spanish-language immersion, Guatemala and a recording studio in Los Angeles.

Sargento Koechner Is Pursuing Corridos — and David Is All In
When the conversation turned to whether any of Koechner’s five children were interested in show business, David pointed toward Sargento and explained that his son is pursuing music. More specifically, he said the 20-year-old Sargento sings corridos — the story-driven Mexican song tradition that has become one of the most visible forces in contemporary música mexicana.
The TigerBelly crew even pulled up his music during the episode, with David encouraging everyone to listen. It is a small moment, but there is something especially charming about watching a veteran actor temporarily stop being the guest and become exactly what he is in that moment: a dad proudly trying to get people to hear his kid’s music.
Then Came Guatemala — Instead of the Traditional College Route
The story gets even more interesting when David explains how Sargento got there. According to Koechner, while one of Sargento’s sisters went off to university, Sargento went to Latin America for language immersion instead of taking the conventional college route.
And Guatemala was not a throwaway detail. David said his son wanted to go back there because he had work opportunities waiting for him. By that point, though, music had entered the picture: the father of one of Sargento’s friends owned a recording studio, and David had heard what his son was making.
That was enough for dad to intervene.

The gallery pulls from media tied to Sargento’s releases “Quiere Bellakear,” “Atrevida” and “Triste Cabron,” along with his own Instagram reel — a much clearer look at the musical lane David Koechner was talking about on TigerBelly.
Sargento did make it back to Guatemala for two weeks, David said, but the larger plan had changed. He was staying focused on the music and actively pursuing it — with Koechner also mentioning an upcoming performance in Oxnard at the time the episode was recorded.
And this is why the story stuck with us. Plenty of celebrity-parent conversations end with some variation of “do whatever makes you happy.” Koechner’s version was more specific: go experience the world, learn the language, find the thing you are actually good at — and when that thing reveals itself, take it seriously.
