One Of The Greatest Shows Of The 2020s - Elle Fanning & Nicholas Hoult Address The Cancellation Of “The Great”: 'Too Many Brilliant Moments.'

"Through playing Catherine I discovered parts of myself I didn’t know I had," Fanning wrote, thanking cast and crew for their work on 'The Great' following the news of its cancellation

Nearly three months after Hulu announced it had not renewed its Emmy-nominated series The Great for a fourth season, Elle Fanning is looking back on her time portraying Queen Catherine II of Russia.

The actress, 25, shared a carousel of images on Instagram Sunday that showcased some of her fondest memories from set.

“Scrolling down memory lane,” she began her tribute. “I haven’t been able to properly share my thoughts after the news of The Great’s cancellation. This show has meant the world to me. The experiences shared. The memories I’ll never forget.”

Calling creator, writer and executive producer Tony McNamara “a certified genius,” Fanning explained how the “last 3 seasons” of the series had “shaped me.”

“Through playing Catherine I discovered parts of myself I didn’t know I had,” she wrote. “I love every crew member and cast member deeply. And although I won’t get to lace up my corset one last time, I am forever proud of what we accomplished together.”

She concluded, “In my mind Catherine is left ‘shaking it all night long’ finally stepping into the leader we always knew she would become, a multitude of lovers thrown in for good measure, many macaroons, vodka shots, long winded speeches, battles of wit, and of course HUUU-F---ING-ZZAHHHHSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🥂”

In the comments, Fanning’s leading man Nicholas Hoult commented that they'd shared “Too many brilliant moments on and off screen. YOU ARE THE GREATEST ❤️”

In August, Deadline reported that The Great had been canceled after 3 seasons. The period comedy was loosely based on empress Catherine the Great’s rise to power in Russia as she maneuvered through court filled with schemers and social climbers.

The series earned seven Emmy nominations over the course of its run and awarded an Emmy for outstanding period costumes in 2022. Fanning also received a SAG award, a Critics Choice award, an Independent Spirit Award and two Golden Globe nominations for her performance." - Yahoo.com
