Law Roach Turns Athena Into a White-Winged Red Carpet Vision

Zendaya did not merely arrive at The Odyssey premiere—she descended. For the film’s New York City unveiling on Tuesday, July 14, the actress appeared in a floor-length white Matières Fécales gown complete with sweeping feathered wings, giving the red carpet a full mythological-fashion moment without slipping into costume-party territory.
The look was an especially fitting piece of method dressing for Zendaya, who plays Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and war, in Christopher Nolan’s new adaptation of Homer’s epic. The asymmetrical strapless neckline, sculpted bodice, dramatic train and enormous wings turned her into something between a marble statue brought to life and a very glamorous warning from the heavens.

Longtime stylist Law Roach let the gown do the shouting while keeping the remaining details controlled. Zendaya wore sculptural white pumps, long floral-inspired diamond earrings by Chopard and a loose fishtail braid with face-framing strands. The natural makeup and softly undone hair prevented the wings from feeling too polished or precious. She looked ethereal, yes—but still ready to command a battlefield.

The wings naturally invite comparisons to the Winged Victory of Samothrace, but the look does not depend on a museum reference to work. From the front, it is an elegantly draped white gown with a high slit. The moment Zendaya turns, the entire silhouette changes and the feathers take over. That reveal is the real drama—and Roach knows exactly when to let her turn around.
Zendaya and Roach have treated The Odyssey press tour like an unfolding fashion narrative, moving through white, gold, sculptural shapes and Grecian references without repeating the same trick. This New York look may be the most literal interpretation yet, but it is also one of the strongest because the visual is immediate: Athena has arrived, and apparently she brought couture wings.

The Odyssey, shot entirely with IMAX film cameras, opens in theaters on July 17. Until then, Zendaya has already given New York one spectacle worthy of the big screen.
