Rap Is Back in Hot 100 Top 40 After Megan Thee Stallion Ends First Period of Genre Absent Since 1990.

Megan Thee Stallion’s “Lover Girl” breaks a two-week rap drought on the Hot 100, debuting at No. 38 and reigniting the genre’s chart presence.

Whoo-hoo! We cannot be more ecstatic since we adored the single “Lover Girl” from the moment it dropped!

For the back-to-back Billboard Hot 100 charts dated Oct. 25 and Nov. 1, no rap songs appeared in the top 40—a first since the Feb. 3, 1990 chart. The genre was totally absent.

That two-week drought comes to an end this week, thanks to young rap queen Megan Thee Stallion.

Megan’s new love song “Lover Girl” debuts at No. 38 on the Nov. 8 Hot 100, marking the first rap track to break into the top 40 since Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” wrapped its 44-week run on the Oct. 18 chart.

Good going, Miss Stallion. An honor well deserved for delivering such a powerhouse catchy number!
