These Friends Arrive With Very Different Definitions Of Fine
Chan plays Gigi Ling, Hollis’s mysterious online friend and the surprise fifth star of the weekend. She enters the house as the woman nobody else truly knows, which would already make her an easy target before the series begins tugging at what she has not told the group.
Carden’s Brooke Kirtley is Hollis’s tightly wound mom friend, somebody who has become so skilled at performing the life expected of her that she has nearly edited herself out of it. Her Nantucket story pushes beyond a tidy midlife-reset cliché and toward a much more vulnerable question: what happens when honesty finally sounds less frightening than remaining comfortable?
Sevigny plays Tatum McKenzie, Hollis’s childhood best friend, whose directness arrives with old history, a medical scare and very limited patience for anybody turning pain into decorative coastal content. She knows who Hollis was before the followers, cookbooks and impeccable hosting, which makes her both a source of comfort and a threat to the image Hollis has built.
Collider Gets Past The Gift Baskets And Into The Damage
The interview lets all three performers talk about the relationship work beneath the series’ glossy surface: how quickly the cast connected, how the women’s private histories shape every conversation and why a beautiful house filled with food, wine and coordinated activities cannot protect anybody once the truth begins checking in.
That off-camera chemistry mattered because the characters do not begin the weekend as one established friend group. Some have decades of history, some barely know each other and Gigi arrives as the fifth name on an invitation nobody else helped write. The actresses had to make the growing intimacy believable without pretending suspicion, jealousy and old wounds vanish because the hydrangeas look expensive.
Chan also approaches Gigi as a flawed human being rather than a twist wearing resort clothes. Carden finds the freedom inside Brooke’s self-discovery, while Sevigny brings enough edge to Tatum that her tenderness never becomes syrupy. Together, they help the show remain funny and warm without sanding down the betrayals that give the weekend its actual weight.

The Five Star Weekend begins after Hollis suffers a devastating loss and a very public breakdown. Hoping to recover, she invites a friend from her childhood, twenties and thirties to her Nantucket home, then adds one unexpected guest to complete the five-star concept. The plan sounds like restorative lifestyle content. The reality includes strained marriages, hidden identities, health fears, old resentment and one secret with enough force to rearrange the entire weekend.
The series also stars Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, Harlow Jane and Timothy Olyphant, with all eight episodes released together on Peacock on July 9. Bekah Brunstetter developed the adaptation, while Hilderbrand and Garner are among the executive producers.
