Selena was an American Tejano singer whose charisma, voice and bilingual identity transformed the genre and made her a lasting Latin-pop icon. Raised in Texas, she began singing with her family band Selena y Los Dinos as a child before building a solo career through albums including Entre a Mi Mundo and Amor Prohibido. Songs such as “Como la Flor,” “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” “No Me Queda Más” and “Amor Prohibido” made her Tejano’s most successful female star. The posthumous crossover album Dreaming of You extended her influence far beyond the genre after her death in 1995.
