The Homesick Make A Constructed Language Feel Like A Groove

Allow us to introduce you to The Homesick and their spectacular new groove “Esperanto.”
Hailing from the Dutch skies, aka the Netherlands, The Homesick are an art-rock, synth-psychedelic, nu-wave-leaning trio made up of Elias Elgersma, Erik Woudwijk and Jaap van der Velde. Together, they make music that feels like it was built in a tiny neon laboratory where post-punk, odd-pop and rubbery dance-floor impulses all got invited to the same strange little party.
The eccentric, unique and terrific banger at hand is titled “Esperanto,” released via the Austrian indie label Siluh Records. It also marks the band’s first release with the Vienna-based label, giving the track an extra little “new chapter” sparkle.
A rubbery, synth-kissed new-wave spark from the Dutch trio, released through Siluh Records and built for curious ears.

Now, Esperanto itself is not just a song title. The word refers to the widely known constructed auxiliary language created in the late 1800s by L. L. Zamenhof, imagined as a neutral second language that could help people understand each other across borders.
Basically, it was built as a communication bridge. A worldwide “let’s talk to each other” moment. A rainbow connection, if you will, from The Muppets to the international language crowd.
That idea fits the song perfectly. The Homesick take something brainy and historical, then twist it into something bouncy, odd, hypnotic and wonderfully elastic. The track bridges cultural divides and grows its own weird little comprehension through rhythm, synths and off-kilter charm.
According to Stereogum, the band had been playing “Esperanto” live for more than a year with improvised lyrics before the finished version arrived. That explains why it feels so loose and alive, like a tune that already had legs before it got dressed for release day.
