Built around a repeated sample of Joni Mitchell ’s voice, the track blended R&B, Hip-Hop, and alternative influences with Q-Tip’s verse.
The rollout also introduced Janet’s striking new era. 90s Red hair, body art and a mix of Gothic and African-inspired styling. Mark Romanek’s music video, filmed at the Hollywood Palladium, placed #Janet as a lounge singer inside a stylized apartheid-era South African setting.
