Selena Gomez scored an era defining major hit with “Same Old released on September 10, 2015 originally developed by Charli XCX & Stargate. One point intended for Rihanna.
Selena ultimately made it her own, using Charli’s background ad-libs remained in the final track.
“Same Old Love” debuted at No. 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 and got a major boost after Gomez performed it at the 2015 American Music Awards.
The song jumped from No. 13 to No. 11 the following week, with sales rising 74% to 81,000 copies, making it the biggest sales beneficiary of any performance from the ceremony.
It eventually climbed to No. 5, tying “Good for You” as Gomez’s highest-charting single at the time and giving Revival multiple top-10 hits for the first time in her career.
