Only In Los Angeles Does A Freeway Pursuit Pick Up A Motorcycle Cameo
Summer is always wild in Los Angeles, especially on the 110 Freeway through South L.A.—but even seasoned local news crews were not ready for this little piece of freeway theater.
The chase involved a man police said was wanted in connection with a robbery and believed to be armed. Authorities pursued the dark Mercedes sedan through South Los Angeles and the Harbor area for more than an hour before the driver headed northbound on the 110 Freeway.
At one point, the suspect slowed and tossed an object from the vehicle that appeared to be a handgun. One pursuing unit stopped to recover it while the rest of the LAPD package continued behind the Mercedes.
Then, right on cue, two motorcyclists suddenly entered the frame and rode frighteningly close to the fleeing vehicle—one of them even pulling a wheelie beside the Mercedes as if the active police pursuit had become an unofficial freeway showcase.

The Bikers Appeared To Have No Idea What They Had Joined
The aerial reporter immediately warned that the riders may not have understood what was happening around them. Neither appeared to be wearing a helmet, and both moved within dangerously close range of a suspect already speeding through open freeway lanes.
That is the unnerving part of any pursuit: everyone else on the road is living an ordinary day until sirens, helicopters and one reckless driver suddenly turn their lane into the scene of a live broadcast.
The northbound 110 appeared relatively open at the time, giving the suspect room to accelerate and giving the bikers just enough space to drift into the action before realizing something was very wrong—or perhaps before deciding that common sense could wait.
The News Desk Knew Exactly What Kind Of Moment This Was
Back in the studio, one anchor summed it up perfectly: “That was an L.A. moment for sure.” Another admitted that watching the motorcyclists made her nervous, while the desk agreed their appearance had to be coincidence.
Probably. Hopefully. Because voluntarily joining an active LAPD pursuit with no helmets would be a level of bad decision-making even Los Angeles traffic is not ready to claim.
Still, the visual was pure city chaos: an armed-robbery suspect racing up the Harbor Freeway, police units behind him, sirens blaring and two bikers briefly occupying the same lane like they had wandered into the wrong action movie.

The pursuit later left the freeway and became trapped in heavy traffic on Crenshaw Boulevard. A pickup driver, apparently following police instructions, moved nose-to-nose with the Mercedes and helped pin it in until the suspect surrendered.
