Alicia Silverstone Spills Why There Was Never a ‘Clueless’ Sequel & Chats Upcoming TV Spinoff.

Alicia Silverstone explains why a Clueless sequel never happened—and confirms she’s back for the new Peacock series.

Alicia Silverstone’s latest podcast drop is serving up fresh tea on the Clueless universe—and why a sequel never made it past the dream stage. The 90s pop culture icon appeared on I’ve Never Said This Before With Tommy DiDario, where she got candid about the beloved 1995 classic and its legacy.

“I just in general thought that sequels were never going to be as good as the original,” Alicia shared. “And then [writer and director] Amy Heckerling herself didn’t want to do it, and I always felt that that would be her who would be the instigator of that.” She added that Heckerling did go on to create a TV adaptation, but Alicia herself was busy with other projects and never seriously considered a follow-up.

Now, nearly 30 years later, Alicia’s stepping back into Cher Horowitz’s iconic Mary Janes for a new sequel series at Peacock, officially greenlit earlier this year. The show will be a modern continuation, with Alicia reprising her role and also serving as executive producer.

The new series is still in early development, with no premiere date yet, but it’s expected to blend nostalgia with fresh Gen Z flair. Think Saved by the Bell reboot meets Euphoria-lite, minus the chaos. Alicia’s already promised: “We will do our very best to honor the original”.
