Did Da’Vinchi Call Black Americans Lazy? Yamaneika Has Thoughts

You’re The Problem… with Yamaneika! is back with Yamaneika Saunders sorting through one of the week’s louder conversations: actor Da’Vinchi’s remarks about American work ethic, Black Americans and the wider Black diaspora during his appearance on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday.

The shorthand online has been that Da’Vinchi “called Black Americans lazy,” but the actual conversation is messier than that headline. While discussing why British and other overseas Black actors are sometimes cast in Black American roles, Da’Vinchi argued that modern American culture can leave people overly dependent and described people as becoming “more incompetent.” The exchange quickly spilled into a much bigger argument about work ethic, opportunity, identity and the way Black Americans are discussed across the diaspora.

Yamaneika Takes the Da’Vinchi Conversation Past the Headline

Yamaneika gets into the Da’Vinchi discussion around the eight-minute mark, and the point is not simply whether one inflammatory word was used. It is the larger framing behind the comments — especially when a conversation about Black British actors playing Black American characters turns into a judgment about who supposedly works harder, who is more “focused,” and why.

Da’Vinchi’s October 2 appearance on Funky Friday with Cam Newton also touched on convenience, efficiency, AI and whether taking the easier route is making Americans less capable. Newton pushed back during the conversation, giving the debate more tension than the clipped versions bouncing around online might suggest.

And Then There’s the SiriusXM Comedy Shakeup

Da’Vinchi is only one piece of the episode. Yamaneika also turns to the changes around SiriusXM comedy programming and the question hanging over working comics as familiar channels and rotations shift: what happens to everybody’s checks?

The episode title goes straight for Sebastian Maniscalco, but Yamaneika widens the conversation to the working comedians affected when programming changes decide who gets heard, who disappears from rotation and who gets paid. For a comic who knows the SiriusXM ecosystem firsthand, that is not an abstract industry conversation.

Trump, Election Anxiety and Dating Across Faiths Also Make the Cut

Elsewhere, Yamaneika takes on Donald Trump’s latest remarks, election anxiety and listener problems — including what happens when the person you are dating is not on the same page with God. It is the usual You’re The Problem mix: politics, comedy-business mess, relationships and a willingness to say the uncomfortable part out loud.
