Yamaneika has problems with the Emmys, boundaries and making legends work

Podcast Alert: Yamaneika Saunders is back with another round of problems, and this time the Emmys, aging music legends, pet-parent disrespect and messy boundaries are all getting called into the office.
The September 16 episode of You’re The Problem… with Yamaneika is titled “The Emmys were so white…Yamaneika had questions!” — which pretty much tells you where the first conversation is headed. Yam gets into the awards show, streaming overload and who actually gets centered when Hollywood is busy congratulating itself.

Then comes one of our favorite angles of the episode: let our legends sit down. Yamaneika turns the conversation toward aging music icons and the strange expectation that performers who have already given audiences decades of work still need to prove themselves by moving like they are 25. Sometimes the legend can sing the song, sit in the chair and let the résumé do the cardio.
And because this show knows that celebrity nonsense is only half the problem, Yam and her sidekick Tyree revisit last week’s friendship drama before moving into listener letters about work, boundaries and burnout. The episode’s own breakdown puts the friendship follow-up around the 17-minute mark, the “Let Our Legends Sit Down” discussion around 22 minutes, and listener problems in the final stretch.

That is where the show keeps finding its sweet spot. Yamaneika can jump from award-show politics to getting older in public to whether cutting off a friend means cutting off the friend’s kid too — and somehow it all still belongs in the same conversation. Messy boundaries, real-life consequences and hilarity.
For anybody just catching up, the show launched in July under the Dear Chelsea Network from Chelsea Handler and iHeartPodcasts, with Handler serving as an executive producer across the network. The format gives Yamaneika exactly the kind of room she needs: pop culture, current events, advice, bad behavior and whatever else has irritated her since the last recording.
