A Ten-Hut! But what we really mean is: A Ten-HOT. Director Peter Berg has unleashed the first teaser for The Mosquito Bowl, his new World War II epic that puts college football stars, Marine Corps brotherhood and the Pacific Theater into one very Berg-sized pressure cooker.

Based on Pulitzer Prize winner Buzz Bissinger’s nonfiction book The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II, the film follows four of America’s top college football players who set their athletic futures aside after the attack on Pearl Harbor and enlist in the Marines.

Nicholas Galitzine stars as John McLaughry, Bill Skarsgård as Bob Bauman, Ray Nicholson as Tony Butkovich and Tom Francis as David Schreiner. The teaser moves between football, training and combat, setting up the collision between the lives these men expected to have and the war that completely rewrote them.

The story builds toward the legendary Mosquito Bowl, a real football game played by Marines on Guadalcanal on December 24, 1944 as they prepared for the invasion of Okinawa. Berg adapted the film with Mark L. Smith, with the project leaning hard into the physicality and emotional intensity that has long been his lane.

Galitzine has said Berg pushed the cast toward a particularly immersive production style, with limited use of stunt doubles and practical battlefield effects keeping the actors close to the action. That approach tracks with Berg’s previous work on Lone Survivor and Friday Night Lights: camaraderie first, chaos immediately behind it.

The Mosquito Bowl opens in select theaters on October 30, 2026 before arriving on Netflix November 25, 2026. Which gives us just enough time to pretend we are emotionally prepared for handsome football men going directly into wartime devastation. We are not.
