Back To The Future: Aaliyah’s “More Than a Woman” turns 25! Serving as the 3rd single from her eponymous third and final studio album.
Aaliyah ’s rollout that changed almost completely in real time. It was originally lined up as the second single from her after “We Need a Resolution” underperformed, but “Rock the Boat” began taking off at radio first. Aaliyah pushed the label to follow the momentum, so “Rock the Boat” moved ahead while “More Than a Woman” was held back. She filmed its video in Los Angeles in August 2001 before traveling to the Bahamas to shoot “Rock the Boat.”
After her death on August 25, the label was left unsure how to1 proceed with both the single and its video. “More Than A Woman ” was ultimately released as the third and final single from the album on September 4, 2001. It peaked at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, but performed even better internationally, reaching No. 1 in Croatia and topping the UK Singles Chart.
