Spotify and Paramount have announced a very late but nonetheless major partnership tied to this weekend’s 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. Beginning Friday, September 25, Spotify is rolling out a dedicated VMAs destination that pulls decades of the show’s history into one place while also building around this year’s nominees and performances.

The timing may be down to the wire, but the idea is bigger than a last-minute promo push: for the first time, VMAs video content will live directly on Spotify, giving fans access to a curated collection of archival performances spanning more than 40 years of the awards show’s history.

The VMAs Move Beyond the Broadcast

Spotify’s new VMAs destination brings archival performances, nominee coverage and post-show video into one on-platform hub.

More Than Four Decades of VMAs History, Now Inside Spotify

The dedicated destination includes an official MTV VMAs video playlist along with specially curated video and editorial content highlighting nominees across multiple categories. Spotify says the experience will be available across mobile, desktop, web and TV, with mobile offering additional editorial commentary, enhanced visual creative and personalized discovery around nominees.

That gives the partnership a little more weight than simply tossing old clips into a playlist. Spotify is effectively becoming another place to move through the VMAs archive before the 2026 show airs, then keep the night going once the broadcast ends.

Select 2026 VMAs Performances Will Arrive After the Broadcast

Following the live show, select performances from the 2026 VMAs will begin appearing on Spotify, giving audiences another way to revisit the night without leaving the platform. Paramount also says broader activation around the partnership will include social capture from the red carpet.

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards air live from Los Angeles on Sunday, September 27, from 7:30–9:30 p.m. ET / 4:30–6:30 p.m. PT on CBS, simulcast on MTV and streamed on Paramount+ Premium in the U.S. The show will be available globally the following day on Paramount+ and MTV.

Madonna’s 2026 VMAs Opening Performance Gets a Spotify Spotlight

One of the partnership’s biggest hooks is Madonna, who will open the 2026 VMAs with her first performance at the show in 23 years. Spotify’s VMAs destination will connect listeners with her music and related awards-show content, extending the moment beyond the live telecast.

That gives the collaboration a particularly fitting centerpiece: Madonna has been part of some of the VMAs’ most enduring performance history, and this year’s return now becomes part of Spotify’s push to make that history easier to revisit on-platform.
