MidCity Mercado’s Día De Los Muertos Festival Brought Community Power To West Adams

It’s Not You It’s Me Media stopped by the debut Día de los Muertos Festival on West Adams here in Los Angeles, and the block was full of exactly the kind of local energy we love to see: creative vendors, community organizations, families, music, culture, and people showing up with purpose.

The festival, held Saturday, November 4, 2023, brought MidCity Mercado back into the neighborhood spotlight with a celebration built around remembrance, tradition, local entrepreneurship, and the kind of grassroots L.A. spirit that makes a street festival feel personal.

One of the people we had the privilege of meeting was Leslie with SoyHood, a youth-focused help group bringing positive energy and community-minded work into the mix. It was one of those quick vendor-row moments that says a lot: this was not just a festival to walk through, it was a place to connect.

The debut West Adams celebration gave space to the traditions of Día de los Muertos while also making room for local makers, resource groups, and neighborhood voices. That balance is what made the event feel special: remembrance on one side, real community action on the other.

MidCity Mercado continues to be one of those L.A. community platforms that understands the bigger picture. The vendors matter. The stories matter. The people behind the tables matter. And when a festival gives all of that room to shine, INYIM is absolutely pulling up.
