Automatic Brought Post-Punk Nightlife Back To Hollywood Boulevard
It was a return to the alternative on Hollywood Boulevard as the sounds of post-punk trio Automatic reverbed out of the famed Fonda Theatre.
Members Izzy Glaudini on synths and vocals, Halle Saxon on bass and vocals, and Lola Dompé on drums and vocals reminded us that the alternative scene still simmers in Los Angeles, even if the once seven-day-a-week indie and industrial dance orbit feels a little smaller these days.
INYIM Live Note
Post-punk nights call for a good record, a black tee, and just enough synth mood to make Hollywood feel dangerous again.

It was a packed house at a perfectly late 10:30 PM curtain time. The band, supporting their 2022 album Excess, started the night at a danceable pace and kept the room moving throughout.
A mix of ages in the audience was a welcome sight, which may be thanks in part to drummer Lola Dompé and her blood connection to Kevin Haskins, the still-beautiful drummer for Bauhaus, Tones on Tail, and Love and Rockets. Even Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner was spotted out amongst the crowd, bobbing along with the rest of us to those passed-down synthesized beats.
Here at It’s Not You It’s Me, we have been posting about Automatic since their first album and also featured the Excess single “Skyscraper” on our Come Thru Vocals Playlist, so we were more than excited to catch the band at The Fonda on a Tuesday night.
Noticing the turnout, lead vocalist Izzy Glaudini thanked the audience and joked that she knew Depeche Mode was in town and she would rather have been there. For us, while it is always nice to visit memory lane, we would rather see the new kids in town who carry that throwback pull of 1960s pop and psychedelia through a modern alternative lens.
A dash of post-punk. A flash of new wave. A sprinkle of sophisticated musicianship. The irresistible and inescapable nighttime sound of Automatic on the boulevard of stars.
