The stunt reportedly involved Angela Nikolau and Ivan Kuznetsov, also known professionally/socially as Ivan Beerkus, a pair already known for extreme rooftopping. The banner read, “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace” — a dramatic message delivered from a very unauthorized location.
Romance? Yes. Spectacle? Absolutely. Safe or recommended? Not even a little. The climb prompted a serious emergency response, street closures, and police action before the day’s rooftop love story turned into a very public arrest story.
There is, admittedly, a strange movie-trailer quality to the whole thing: a landmark, a banner, helicopters, a ring, the city looking up. But the actual story is also a reminder that dramatic public stunts at secured landmarks become emergency situations fast.
According to reports, police met the pair as they came down from the spire, and charges tied to the unauthorized climb included serious allegations such as burglary, criminal trespass, and reckless endangerment.
