Moodboard Texture Tack: Adam Ant and Siouxsie Sioux in Punk’s First Flash

Moodboard Texture Tack: Adam Ant and Siouxsie Sioux were two of the defining faces to emerge from the late-1970s British punk and post-punk explosion — artists whose style, attitude and visual language helped make the scene look every bit as confrontational as it sounded.
Their paths crossed inside the same early London punk ecosystem. Siouxsie Sioux came out of the infamous Bromley Contingent, the group of young Sex Pistols followers who became part of punk’s first visual mythology before Siouxsie and the Banshees formally took shape.

Siouxsie and the Banshees first appeared at London’s 100 Club Punk Special in September 1976, with Sid Vicious on drums and Marco Pirroni on guitar. Pirroni would later become one of the most important creative partners in Adam Ant’s career, helping shape the sound and attack of Adam and the Ants as they moved out of punk and into something far more theatrical.
That overlap is part of what makes the pairing so visually satisfying. Siouxsie pushed punk toward a colder, sharper, increasingly post-punk silhouette; Adam Ant took the raw ingredients of the same scene and eventually exploded them into pirate romanticism, military braid, face paint and full pop spectacle.
Different destinations, same beautifully unruly starting point. Before either became an icon with a fully formed visual universe, both were part of the moment when London punk was still being invented in clubs, shops, photographs and whatever somebody had managed to tear apart and put back on before leaving the house.
