Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson Bring Their Brotherly Chaos to Conan O’Brien

Matthew and Woody Bring Their Chaotic Friendship Straight to Conan

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson get together for a rousing tongue-in-cheek interview on Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, and with these three in one room, the conversation was never going to stay politely on the rails.

It’s Monday, so you know that means a new podcast episode from the Team Coco crew. This time Conan sits down with longtime friends and True Detective co-stars McConaughey and Harrelson for a conversation that moves from how they first met to the very different ways they approach acting.

Their Friendship Is Basically the Fourth Person in the Room

Team Coco frames the episode around the pair’s history together: how Matthew and Woody first met, the way their acting styles differ, and how much of their new series Brothers pulls from their real-life personalities. Considering how naturally they bounce off each other, the line between interview and two friends casually roasting each other gets thin pretty fast.

And Yes, the “Are They Actually Brothers?” Question Comes Back

The pair also revisit that wonderfully persistent question of whether they could actually be related. Their resemblance, family histories and long friendship have fueled the idea for years, and naturally Conan is exactly the person you want sitting between them while the subject comes back around.

There is also Brothers, the duo’s new series, which gives the conversation another reason to dig into how much of their onscreen chemistry comes from the actual Matthew-and-Woody dynamic. At this point, casting them as versions of themselves almost feels less like acting and more like someone finally decided to put a camera on the friendship.
