Henry Cavill Brought a 100-Year-Old Flex to Royal Ascot

Man Crush Monday goes full heritage flex this week with Henry Cavill at Royal Ascot. The actor and Longines Ambassador of Elegance made his first appearance at the famed British racing event in June 2026, arriving in full morning dress with a watch that was very much not pulled from a boutique display case.

Cavill wore a rare Longines monopusher chronograph from 1926, a century-old piece brought out from the brand’s museum in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, for the occasion. Longines describes the watch as a historic example powered by its 13.33Z calibre, the company’s first wrist chronograph movement, originally introduced in 1913.

The watch itself is the kind of piece collectors normally expect to see behind glass. A monopusher chronograph controls the start, stop and reset functions through a single pusher rather than separate buttons, while the dial features a spiral tachymeter scale designed for measuring speed. It is old-school watchmaking with actual purpose behind the drama.

Longines has deep ties to equestrian sport and served as Official Partner, Official Time Partner and Official Watch of Royal Ascot 2026, held from June 16 through June 20. Cavill attended as one of the house’s ambassadors alongside actress and Friend of the Brand Sara Ali Khan, while Longines also used the week to spotlight its latest Master Collection pieces.

Cavill’s connection to the event was not purely sartorial. He noted that he has spent roughly 25 years working with horses on film sets, sometimes forming real bonds with them along the way. That made Royal Ascot a natural fit for an ambassador whose public image already leans heavily toward old-school tailoring, precision and an almost suspicious level of polish.

And yes, the styling did exactly what it needed to do. Cavill paired the museum piece with traditional Royal Ascot morning dress rather than trying to make the watch scream for attention. That restraint is what makes the whole thing work: a nearly 100-year-old chronograph on the wrist of a modern movie star, treated like part of the outfit instead of a museum stunt.

Longines named Cavill an Ambassador of Elegance in 2025, and this was about as on-brand a public appearance as possible. Royal Ascot already runs on ceremony, tailoring and tradition; Cavill simply showed up with a literal piece of Longines history strapped to his wrist.
