Summer-Ween Has Officially Taken Over the Seasonal Aisle

The calendar says August, but the seasonal aisle has already entered its haunted-house phase. Halloween decorations and costumes are landing in stores nationwide, giving shoppers weeks of summer sun with a side of glowing skulls.

TODAY calls the ever-earlier retail rollout “Halloween creep,” and honestly, the name fits. Pumpkins, skeletons and oversized yard creatures are no longer waiting for the first cool breeze—they are clocking in while beach towels are still on duty.

Seasonal Summoning

The Halloween aisle has entered the chat.

If August is apparently October now, browse the spooky inventory before the giant-skeleton crowd clears the shelves.

In the August 8 report, NBC News correspondent Jesse Kirsch heads into the displays to examine why spooky inventory keeps appearing earlier—and why retailers are going bigger with it. The result is full-on Summer-Ween: part seasonal strategy, part permission slip for Halloween devotees to start decorating before Labor Day.

For shoppers who plan early, the extra runway means more time to find the good stuff. For everyone else, it means accepting that a motion-activated skeleton may scream at you while you are still buying sunscreen. Retail has spoken: spooky season now arrives whenever it pleases.

Whether that feels delightfully eerie or seasonally unhinged depends on how quickly you are willing to surrender summer. Either way, the displays are here—and they are difficult to miss.
