A Sudden, Heartbreaking Loss at Dickerson Park Zoo

“Emu Down! Missouri Emu Named Adam Dead After Strange Storm,” the Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield, Missouri, is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Adam, a beloved female emu.
During a burst of violent severe weather, the region was hit with massive 3–5 inch hail — literal ice bombs — that tore through the zoo grounds. The hail caused fatal injuries to Adam, who could not survive the impact.
Zoo officials confirmed that the storm also damaged multiple buildings, leaving behind a trail of destruction and heartbreak. But the deepest wound was the loss of the gentle, feathery presence who had long been part of the zoo’s creature family.

Mother Nature called you back to the earth’s crust soil, sweet Adam.
Gone too soon. Gone too strangely. Gone in a way only the wild, unpredictable force of nature could deliver.
