Dolly Has a “Really Good” Song Nobody Can Hear Until 2045
Dolly Parton has a song she desperately wants to hear again — except she is the one who agreed to lock it away until 2045.
During a December 2022 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Dolly revealed that a never-before-heard song she wrote and recorded for the 2015 opening of Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort & Spa is sitting inside a time capsule that is not supposed to be opened until the resort celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2045.

There is just one small problem: Dolly thinks the song is really good, and waiting more than two decades to get it back is apparently driving her slightly crazy.
“You have no idea how that has bothered me,” Parton told Clarkson, explaining that she wants to dig the capsule up early. The plan is for it to stay sealed until 2045, when Dolly would be 99 years old.
She also joked about the possibility that the recording itself could deteriorate before anyone gets to hear it. Along with the unreleased song, the capsule contains items representing the way music was played at the time, including a cassette player and CD player.
Dolly previously wrote about the strange experience in her 2020 book Songteller: My Life in Lyrics, describing how unsettling it felt to create a song specifically knowing that nobody was supposed to hear it for decades.
Twenty-three years is a very long time to know one of your own songs is sitting somewhere nearby, especially when you are Dolly Parton and could simply decide that patience is no longer part of the arrangement. Somebody keep an eye on the shovel shed at Dollywood.
