D’Arcy Carden did not exactly stroll into Good Hang with Amy Poehler quietly. The Good Place favorite turned up as the surprise guest at Poehler’s live New York taping, bringing the kind of loose, instantly funny chemistry you would expect from two performers with deep improv roots.
The show took over Town Hall in New York, where Poehler first invited William Jackson Harper and Abbi Jacobson onstage to “speak well” about Carden before revealing her as the evening’s main guest. From there, the room settled into exactly what Good Hang promises: career stories, odd tangents, mutual admiration and just enough nonsense to keep the whole thing from turning into a standard celebrity Q&A.

Amy Poehler Basically Turned The Interview Into D’Arcy Appreciation Hour
Before Carden even reached the center of the conversation, Harper and Jacobson were already helping Poehler build the case for why she is such a beloved collaborator. It was affectionate, ridiculous and very on-brand for a show whose whole concept is less “interrogate the guest” and more “figure out why everybody likes hanging out with them.”
Poehler and Carden share a comedy-family connection through the Upright Citizens Brigade, and that history showed up in the rhythm of the live conversation. They bounced through tangents, sang bits of Annie, celebrated character actor Ann Dowd and even spent time with a singing plastic ear of corn Carden brought as a gag gift.
The Good Place Still Follows D’Arcy Everywhere — As It Should
Carden’s career has grown far beyond Janet, but The Good Place remains the role that made a huge audience fall for her particular brand of perfectly controlled weirdness. Then Everybody Ended The Night Singing Tom Petty
Because apparently one surprise guest was not enough, Harper and Jacobson returned near the end of the show and joined Poehler and Carden for a group performance of Tom Petty’s “American Girl.” It was less grand finale than extremely charming friend-group karaoke — which may be the most Good Hang ending possible.
The whole evening was over before 8 p.m., proving Amy Poehler understands her audience on a spiritual level: come laugh, see your comedy favorites, sing one Tom Petty song and still get home at a responsible hour.
