A 13-year-old boy in Cypress, Texas, survived a terrifying close call after lightning struck near his home and electrical current traveled inside while he was using his computer. The teen, identified in local reports as Vlad Skuridin, was playing video games when the shock hit.

According to officials cited in the local reports, the electrical current moved through the home’s wiring and caused a small attic fire. The family also showed damage inside the home, including a hole in the wall. EMS evaluated Vlad at the scene, and thankfully, he did not need to be transported to the hospital.
The details are wild because the teen was not standing in a field, holding a kite, or doing any cartoon version of storm danger. He was inside his bedroom. That is what makes this one extra eerie: lightning can travel through electrical systems, wiring, plumbing, and anything connected to them when a strike hits the wrong place at the wrong time.
Authorities used the Cypress incident as a safety reminder: during thunderstorms, avoid corded electronics and stay away from wiring and plumbing. Translation from thee sky: if it is booming outside, do not test the outlets.
