Jackie Is Stable While Shadow Holds Down The Big Bear Nest

Oh no—Jackie, Big Bear Valley’s world-famous bald eagle, is receiving specialized wildlife care after she was found weak, grounded and struggling near the shoreline over the weekend.
The encouraging news is that the adult eagle believed to be Jackie was reported stable in the latest update from Friends of Big Bear Valley. Her medical team is waiting on diagnostic results, which may take several days, but initial examinations found no obvious broken bones, open wounds or major visible injuries.
Jackie was underweight, weak and unusually quiet when rescuers evaluated her. Her feathers appeared disheveled and her feet were caked with mud—clear signs that something was wrong even without an immediately visible fracture or wound.
INYIM regularly follows Jackie and Shadow through their live nest stream on the INYIM Live Hub, where the beloved pair and their growing eagle family have become part of our curated live watchlist.

The concern began after an adult bald eagle was seen on the ground near Dana Point Park in Fawnskin on Thursday and Friday. The bird was later observed defending itself during a brief confrontation with two younger eagles, turning onto its back and using its talons but appearing unable to fly far away.
Watch The Confrontation Near Jackie And Shadow’s Territory
Footage captured before Jackie’s rescue shows the adult eagle believed to be Jackie confronting younger bald eagles near the Big Bear territory—an encounter observers believe may have contributed to her exhaustion.
A team from the Los Angeles County Parks San Dimas Raptor Rescue responded early Saturday and found the eagle weak and tired near Big Bear Lake. Because the bird offered far less resistance than a healthy eagle normally would, rescuers immediately understood that medical attention was necessary.
After receiving initial care in San Dimas, the eagle was transferred to the Ojai Raptor Center, which is permitted and equipped to provide the specialized rehabilitation bald eagles require. A full medical assessment is underway.
Friends of Big Bear Valley says photographs, videos and Jackie’s absence from the nest cameras make it apparent that the rescued eagle is likely Jackie. Wildlife officials have not described the identification as absolute, so the nonprofit has also urged viewers to avoid online speculation while the medical team does its work.
Meanwhile, Shadow is pulling double duty. He continues bringing fish, guarding the territory and watching over the pair’s recently fledged eaglets, Sandy and Luna, while Jackie remains away from the family.
Experts say the situation reflects the difficult reality of life in the wild. Adult and subadult bald eagles compete for food, perches and territory, and Jackie may have exhausted herself while repeatedly defending the area without enough time to rest and recover.
That explanation does not make the footage easy to watch. Jackie and Shadow’s cameras have given viewers a front-row seat to courtship, eggs, storms, loss, hatching, feeding and fledging. When one of them struggles, the distance between a wildlife stream and an extended family suddenly feels very small.
