Urkel, Sabrina, Stephanie Tanner and more just moved into HGTV
Back to the future, indeed. HGTV’s Totally ’90s House is basically what happens when TGIF, teen TV, home renovation and one aggressively nostalgic VHS tape all get tossed into the same living room.
The new six-episode competition series, hosted by Jaleel White, splits a collection of ’90s television favorites into two teams and sends them hunting for homes that never quite got the memo that the decade ended.
The goal: choose a house still trapped in the era of honey-oak cabinets, sponge-painted walls, mirrored closets and heavy carpet, then drag it into the present without stripping away all the deliciously questionable ’90s character.

The Cast Is Basically a ’90s Television Channel Surf
On one side: Jodie Sweetin of Full House, Beverley Mitchell of 7th Heaven and Brian Austin Green of Beverly Hills, 90210.
Facing them are Melissa Joan Hart of Clarissa Explains It All and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Matthew Lawrence of Boy Meets World and Keshia Knight Pulliam, best known to generations of viewers as Rudy Huxtable. Matthew’s older brother Joey Lawrence also drops in to lend a hand.
And hovering over this beautiful time warp is Jaleel White — forever Steve Urkel to a certain generation — playing host as the two teams battle for bragging rights and a $25,000 donation to their chosen charity.
Yes, the Houses Are Actually Still Stuck in the ’90s
HGTV did not merely build some faux nostalgia set and call it a day. The teams scour the country looking for real homes with very real relics of the decade still intact.
Think honey oak, curved staircases, valances, mirrored doors, sponge paint and wall-to-wall carpeting — all the design decisions that once screamed “new construction” and now immediately tell you somebody has not touched that room since the Clinton administration.
The first episode sends one team to a Los Angeles home that had not been renovated since 1992, while the other heads to St. Louis. From there, the teams start tackling individual rooms while HGTV personalities and design experts cycle through to judge the makeovers.
And HGTV Brought in More Familiar Faces to Judge It
The nostalgia does not stop with the competitors. Drew Lachey of 98 Degrees evaluates the primary bathrooms, while HGTV names including Mina Starsiak Hawk and Paige Davis step in for later spaces.
Designer Jonathan Adler gets the final word, touring the completed homes and crowning the Totally ’90s House champion.

For anyone who grew up bouncing between ABC, Fox, Nickelodeon and The WB, the casting alone is half the fun. These are faces that once lived in entirely different corners of the dial now standing together in one HGTV competition.

The series premiered August 26 at 9|8c on HGTV, with episodes available to stream on HBO Max beginning the following day.
