“For the Givenchy Pre-Fall 2019 collection, artistic director Clare Waight Keller drew on the Greek myth of Icarus, the youth who donned wings of wax and feathers, soared too close to the sun and tumbled into the sea.
In a first “Icarus” theme, light blue dominates; the Sun follows with a yellow story and a third theme, on the Icarus and the Minotaur, in red and black. Military references nod to aviator style, with a jumpsuit, leather blouson and coat, a metaphor for modern incarnations of Icarus.
