Beautifully restored, and finally back in view: Amy Winehouse performing “Back to Black” on The Album Chart Show in 2006. The performance was newly uploaded to her official YouTube channel on October 16, 2026, just ahead of the album’s 20th anniversary.

Amy is onstage, working, looking to us like she might have been on a good one the night before. But the moment she opens her mouth, you remember exactly why that voice stopped people in their tracks.

Filmed on November 3, 2006, the television appearance came just a week after her second album, Back to Black, arrived in the UK on October 27. Before the record became a monument to an era, here was Amy, right in the middle of it, singing the title track as a new release rather than an untouchable classic.

Still That Voice, Still That Swagger

The setup is deliciously mid-2000s television: purple and magenta stage lighting, a live band, and backing singers in light suits moving in step behind her. Amy arrives with her beehive high, eyeliner sharp, tattoos visible and an outfit all her own. None of it feels overly polished. That was part of her charm.

And the performance isn’t some carefully contained museum piece. She snaps and sways through the introduction, leans into that famously unhurried phrasing, then drops into a low crouch during the extended refrain before rising for the finish. You can watch her find little pockets of rhythm that no one else could quite occupy.

There’s a peculiar ache in seeing it now. “Back to Black” had only just arrived; the years of accolades, imitation and heartbreak that followed were still ahead. In this room, it was simply a fiercely original young singer making a new song sound as though it had been around forever.

This newly available performance joins the 20th-anniversary celebrations for Back to Black, including an expanded edition announced for October 23, 2026. The project revisits the original album with archival recordings and live material, putting fresh attention on the voice and songwriting that made the record endure.

But this is the kind of archive discovery that needs very little explaining. Three and a half minutes, a stage full of musicians, and Amy doing what Amy did. Have a look for yourself.
