OMD Prove the Dark Dancefloor Never Dies at M’era Luna 2026

OMD brought their timeless synth-pop to Germany’s M’era Luna Festival 2026, performing classics including “Electricity,” “Souvenir,” “If You Leave” and “Enola Gay.” With their founding members still at the heart of the band and aging goths stretching as far as the eye could see, the dark dancefloor never looked more beautiful.

A Beautiful Sea of Aging Goths, and OMD Sounding as Timeless as Ever

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) shine on at M’era Luna Festival 2026, performing on August 9 in Hildesheim, Germany, before a wonderfully devoted gothic crowd. Filmed for ARTE Concert, the set makes one thing clear: OMD are not merely a nostalgia act. They are a full live band, they sound amazing, and their songs still belong on a dancefloor.

And what a crowd. A sea of aged goths as far as the eye could see—and it was beautiful. People who have lived with this music for decades, still dressed for the occasion, still showing up for the synthesizers, the romance and the darker side of pop. If anybody needed proof that getting older means absolutely nothing to the spirit of a scene, here it was. The dark dancefloor never dies.

The Original OMD Spirit Is Still on Stage

This is a band with history in its bones, not one borrowing the name for a reunion tour. Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, who founded OMD in 1978, remain at its center. They are joined by Martin Cooper, whose OMD history stretches back to 1980, and drummer Stuart Kershaw. It is not the precise early four-piece lineup, but it absolutely includes the original creative partnership behind those remarkable records.

That continuity matters because the music never depended solely on looking young or dressing like the early eighties. OMD could make a skeletal electronic arrangement feel grand, and an impossibly catchy pop song feel a little melancholy. Hearing those melodies carried by musicians who still believe in them is the opposite of watching an old record dusted off for a payday.

The M’era Luna 2026 Setlist

The festival set mixed foundational synth-pop with later favorites. According to the documented concert setlist, these were the songs performed, in order:

  1. Isotype
  2. Electricity
  3. Messages
  4. History of Modern (Part I)
  5. (Forever) Live and Die
  6. If You Leave
  7. Souvenir
  8. Joan of Arc (Maid of Orleans)
  9. Veruschka
  10. So in Love
  11. Locomotion
  12. Sailing on the Seven Seas
  13. Enola Gay

The set also used the taped pieces Atomic Ranch and The Rock Drill. Hearing early essentials such as “Electricity” and “Messages” alongside the soaring “Souvenir,” “If You Leave” and the closing “Enola Gay” shows just how much musical ground OMD have covered without ever surrendering their identity.

M’era Luna is an especially fitting home for a band like OMD. This is a festival where goth, industrial, darkwave and alternative audiences meet, and OMD’s bittersweet electronics have always lived comfortably along those borders. Against that sea of older goths, these are not songs frozen in their original decade. They are still part of a living culture.

There is something genuinely lovely about the sight of a crowd aging alongside its music instead of abandoning it. Black clothing, decades of musical memories, and those familiar keyboard lines floating over everyone. Not a museum. Not a costume party. Just people still finding joy in the music that helped make them who they are.

OMD have earned the right to revisit their catalog, but the real pleasure here is that they approach it as music worth playing now. Their performance remains bright, emotional and gloriously alive.
